Mr. Sequoyah Yee is of Native American and Chinese descent. He is the first lawyer from the Hualapai Tribal Nation of Arizona. He was born in Philadelphia and raised in Delaware County, he graduated from the University of Hartford where he majored in Pre-Law while on a full athletic scholarship to play Division I Lacrosse. An All-New England Selection and a two-time All-America East Selection, Mr. Sequoyah Yee helped the University of Hartford win its first America East Conference Championship joining the team in its first appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
His love of lacrosse and determination to become a top criminal defense attorney took him to Syracuse University College of Law (SUCOL) where he reached the semi-finals of the Hancock Estabrook First Year Oral Advocacy Competition and twice reached the final rounds of the Lionel O. Grossman Trial Competition while also playing box lacrosse for the Onondaga Nation helping the team win two Can-Am Championships making two appearances in the Canadian National Championship tournament, the President’s Cup. While at SUCOL, Mr. Sequoyah Yee served as the vice president of the Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) and as a member of the Criminal Defense Clinic where he first started representing individuals charged with crimes under the direction of his future mentor, Todd A. Berger, Director of the Criminal Defense Clinic and former Assistant Defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia.
Mr. Berger introduced Mr. Sequoyah Yee to the Defender Association of Philadelphia, one of the nation’s top public defender offices, where he spent his final semester of law school as an extern in the Homicide Unit where he served as a mitigation assistant until he graduated in May of 2018. Mr. Sequoyah Yee passed the bar shortly after graduation and immediately began work as an Assistant Defender at the Defender Association of Philadelphia where he spent the last five years handling thousands of cases for indigent individuals charged with crimes in Philadelphia. While working as an Assistant Defender, Mr. Sequoyah Yee maintained his high-level decision making playing professional lacrosse for the Trenton Terror where he served as the Assistant Captain for the 2022-2023 season.
He comes to Coleman Defense LLC after five years spent at the Defender Association of Philadelphia, where he represented thousands of clients charged with crimes running the gamut from misdemeanors like DUI and Simple Assault to the most serious felonies such as Arson, Robbery, Burglary, and Rape.
